A suspect charged with shooting a Rhode Island police officer during an early morning foot chase has been held without bail.
Tyler Chandler, with a visible eye injury, was held during his court appearance Tuesday where he faced charges including several counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He did not enter a plea.
Prosecutors say the 22-year-old Chandler of Portsmouth shot Woonsocket Officer Travis Young in the thigh early Monday morning after he was spotted walking city streets with a gun in his hand.
Young was treated at the hospital and released.
Chandler was apprehended after a two-hour standoff in a parking lot during which police used a concussion grenade.
No lawyer was listed for Chandler in online court records and the judge referred him to the public defender's office.
