RI fisherman seeks good home for giant lobster

(NECN: Michelle Brown, Bristol, RI) – A Rhode Island trawler has snagged a giant lobster. Now the fisherman is looking for a place it can call home. Bob Morris has spent the past 35 years as a trawler fisherman. This recent catch, is one he says he’s never ever seen before inshore. Morris and his deckhand shadow snagged the 12 and a half-pound 60-year old crustacean about three weeks ago while trawling for flounders near the Newport Bridge in Rhode island. Morris named her Lucky Lucy. Shadow calls her Big Bertha. Recreational anglers at the state street pier in Bristol are impressed by the big catch. It seems luck had run out for Big Bertha when someone from the Lobster Association called Bob Morris saying it was illegal to keep a lobster this size. Morris was about to release his catch back into the water Friday, when Shadow got a call from the Department of Environmental Management. They said that there was no upper size limit, and they could keep the lobster. However, Shadow and Bob have no plans of letting anyone cook the old lobster. NECN’s Michelle Brown has more.
