One man died and four others were hurt in a crash Wednesday night in Brockton, Massachusetts, according to police.

The crash happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Pleasant Street and Nye Avenue, according to Brockton police. The collision involved pedestrians, vehicles and motorcycles.

Firefighters in Brockton responded to help treat the people who were hurt.

Two pedestrians were reportedly struck by a car, according to the Plymouth District Attorney's Office. One of them, later identified as Edisson Matza, 24, of Brockton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second female pedestrian was taken to Brockton Hospital by ambulance before eventually being transferred to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries.

The crash scene ran about 50 yards along Pleasant Street, the district attorney's office said. A Mercedes sedan was located on the eastbound side of Pleasant Street with heavy damage to its front and rear. The driver was taken to Brockton Hospital with minor injuries.

A second vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, was found about 50 feet east of the Mercedes, with heavy front end damage. The driver of that vehicle was not injured in the crash.

A motorcycle was also located about 50 feet from the Mercedes. The driver was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries. A second motorcyclist involved in the crash was also taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, also with minor injuries.

Authorities said it appears the initial crash involving the pedestrians triggered a second crash involving the two motorcycles, which in turn caused a third crash involving one of the motorcycles and another motor vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
