Tamir in hot water over comments

(NECN) – Leaders of Boston’s Jewish community have taken a stand behind Israel’s Consul General for New England, Nadiv Tamir, who was summoned to Jerusalem this week to explain some controversial comments. Jim Smith of The Boston Globe joined NECN’s News Day Live to discuss the tensions. In an internal memo that leaked last week, Tamir wrote that Israel’s clashes with Washington over the U.S. demand for a settlement freeze were causing “strategic damage to Israel.” Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman suggested on Monday that Tamir should resign his post. Smith said there is a sense that Tamir may return to Boston to finish out his stint. Watch the entire interview in the video player above.
