Tense standoff comes to peaceful ending in RI

(NECN/WPRI) – A tense standoff comes to a peaceful ending. Rhode Island and Massachusetts State police were busy Friday afternoon, trying to disarm the suspect, John Keough of Malden Massachusetts. Troopers say it all started at a home in Rehobath Massachusetts. That’s were they say the 27-year-old broke into a home on School Street. Police say the suspect tied up the homeowner, stole money and her car, then took off. She was able to break free and call 9-11. Police in East Providence spotted the suspect a shot time later. Once at Slater Park in Pawtucket, Rhode Island police say Keough lost control of the vehicle and drove into the Ten Mile River beginning the standoff. Holding the gun to his head and chest, until negotiators convinced him to put the weapon down. Police say the homeowner the suspect robbed was randomly selected. Keough faces a long list of charges, including armed home invasion and alluding police. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are possible.
