Two People Jump From Building to Escape Fire

Two people are in the hospital after jumping from the third story of a building with multiple residential units during a fire Monday morning in Hartford, Connecticut.

Two people are in the hospital after jumping from the third story of a Hartford, Connecticut, building during a fire on Albany Avenue (Route 44)  Monday morning.

Route 44 is shut down in both directions between Sigourney and Woodland streets.

About eight people live in units at the building and all made it out of the building and are accounted for, according to a female resident. Firefighters and police are on scene.

The woman, who was not home at the time of the fire, said her 17-year-old was in the shower when she heard neighbors banging on her door and she ran outside.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Police suggest using Homestead Avenue as an alternate route.
