Body Found Along the Merrimack River in Amesbury, Massachusetts

There is no word yet as to whether the death is suspicious

A man walking his dog made a disturbing discovery Friday afternoon, finding a body on the shore of the Merrimack River in Amesbury, Massachusetts.

"Looking around, I saw a pair of boots," said Mike Masi. "Over to investigate, there was a body attached, so I didn't touch it or anything, just called police."

The body was found on the beach just steps from the Merrimack town line off of Pleasant Valley Road.

Masi says it appeared to be an adult male, fully clothed and face down.

After further investigation, the Essex District Attorney's Office identified the cause of death as drowning. There did not appear to be any visible trauma to the body, and the man was dressed for winter.

The District Attorney does not suspect any foul play.

Investigators could be seen near the beach looking for evidence that could shed some light on the case.

It is still unclear how the body got there.

"I expect it had washed up," said Masi. "Brought here by the current."

At this time police are only able to reveal the body is an adult male, but have not revealed his age.
