Boston Marathon's 2019 Elite Team Members Announced

Boston Marathon sponsor, John Hancock Financial, has announced its 29 members for the 2019 U.S. Elite Team.

About 30,000 runners will compete in the world’s most famous marathon on Patriots’ Day. Among those runners will be defending champion and Olympian, Desiree Linden.

Linden sprinted to victory in 2018 and became the first American woman to win the race in 33 years.

Joining the two-time Olympian will be Sarah Sellers, who placed second in the women’s race, and Jordan Hasay, who set the fastest American debut of all time when she placed third in the marathon in 2017.

In the men’s open field, Shadrack Biwott, who came in third this year, will be joined by three-time Olympian and third fastest U.S. marathoner of all time, Dathan Ritzenhein. Four-time Olympian Abdi Abdirahman will also compete in the elite team.

As for the women’s wheelchair division, reigning champion and five-time winner, Tatyana McFadden will join Los Angeles Marathon champion Michelle Wheeler and Susannah Scaroni.

The men’s wheelchair division will include marathon champion Daniel Romanchuk, who is the first American to win the men’s wheelchair division in New York.
