Rare Sight: Bottlenose Dolphin Spotted in Merrimack River

The dolphin appears to be feeding and behaving normally, according to an animal rescue that's tracking the cetacean

A bottlenose dolphin has been spotted in multiple locations in the Merrimack River in Massachusetts since last week.

The SSC Marine Mammal Rescue said they received reports of the dolphin in locations between Newburyport and Amesbury starting on Aug. 16. The last confirmed sighting was on Tuesday at 3:51 p.m.

The dolphin appears to be feeding and behaving normally, according to the New Hampshire animal rescue, which is tracking the cetacean.

The group says it's not unheard of to have a bottlenose dolphin in New England but it is very rare.

Anyone who sees the dolphin is urged to contact the SSC Marine Mammal Rescue at 603-997-9448 so they can continue to track it. Viewers are reminded to keep a far distance away.
