Tomorrow (Tuesday): Start off with some sun before clouds take over. A flurry or two in far northern New England. Highs in the 30s.
With patchy black ice in Central and Northern New England transitioning to the rear-view mirror, attention shifts to milder air that will cooperate with breaks of sun and a southwest wind gusting to 30 mph to push temperatures into the 40s for all but the far North Country, where a fresh one to three inches of snow falls today.
Most of New England won’t drop below freezing overnight tonight, but cooler air starts moving in Wednesday as the wind shifts to blow from the northwest with morning sun to a fair sky and fresh breeze.
By Thursday, cold air will be back in New England with highs near 30 south and 20s north. This will set the stage for a two-stage storm Friday into Saturday to start as a wintry mix Friday, then transition to rain from south to north Friday night through Saturday... though some of our northern mountains may stay ice and snow deep into the day.
A break in the action is probable for most of the daylight hours Sunday, though by Christmas Eve night into Christmas Day, another storm is likely... this time with the potential for rain, snow or more likely, both, though it’s early to speak with certainty.
What we are certain about is the cold air that streams in following the Christmas storm, dipping highs into the teens and 20s for the middle of next week!
