‘Not Forgotten': Worcester Corrections Officer Running Triathalon to Honor Fallen Officers

A member of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department is in Florida to run one of the toughest races a body can endure. He says the pain of the race is nothing compared to the reason why he’s competing. For Bryan “BJ” Williams, running is one way he deals with the stress of his job as a corrections officer. The death of Auburn police officer Ron Tarentino Jr., who was shot and killed during a traffic stop in 2016, hit him especially hard. After helping host the Ron Tarentino road race fundraiser, he now has a different reason to run. He is competing in the Great Floridia, a 140.6-mile Ironman triathlon and he’ll wear a custom made jersey. The front will honor the Ron Tarentino Jr. Charitable Foundation, and the back will honor all 129 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty just last year. And when he runs the 26.2-mile portion of the race, he will carry high a thin blue line flag to show the families of these fallen officers that they have not been forgotten.
