Downpours and storms are crossing New England, bringing an end to the oppressive heat and humidity that’s been in place for a week.
The storms will be most widespread around Boston during the mid-to-late morning, into the early afternoon. By that point, most of the rain will be done in Northern New England, with humidity dropping and the sun breaking out.
Flooding has already been reported in some areas, including Braintree, Holland, Hopkinton and Upton, Massachusetts. Several roads are reportedly underwater.
Numerous lightning strikes have also been reported, including one that started a house fire in Weymouth.
First responders advise drivers to never drive through flooded roads or underpasses and to avoid low-lying areas near small streams during periods of intense downpours.

Storms will linger south of Boston into the afternoon, before winding down Friday evening. Skies will then clear even there, with a late day drop in humidity.
Be alert for areas of localized flooding as the rain and storms come through due to torrential downpours. Isolated, strong-to-severe storms are also possible in a few spots.
The weekend still looks gorgeous, with lots of sunshine and low humidity. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s both days.
We’re closer to 90 by early next week, and humidity only slowly creeps up. Storm chances hold off until mid-week.
