”Jackpot!” Man Finds Hidden Treasure in Estate Sale Purchase

A Texas environmental agency that’s supposed to consider forcing a small South Texas town to turn the water back on so its school district’s students can return to class has received conflicting recommendations.

A Houston-area man said he hit the jackpot when he found a hidden treasure at an estate sale.

Emil Knodell thought he had a good deal when he bought an antique walnut chest at the estate sale for less than $100, but that was only the beginning.

"We were loading onto the truck," Knodell said. "It sounded like a metallic waterfall."

Knodell said he opened the chest and found jewelry, coins, cash and Civil War medals inside.

"It was like the Hardy Boys," he said. "Jackpot!"

Knodell said he won't keep the chest. Instead, he wants the real estate company to return it to its original owner.
