Newly Named Dinosaur Was Europe's Biggest Predator

Meet Europe's largest predator. Researchers say they've recently identified a new dinosaur from the late Jurassic period that was built like the T. Rex, but with blade-like teeth and longer arms. Torvosaurus gurneyi was discovered by a University of Lisbon grad student, Christophe Hendrickx, who identified the dino from pieces of jawbone and a vertebra, recovered from a site in Portugal. But he's still studying the creature. "It's difficult to know if it’s a predator or a scavenger," he said, describing the new species along with his colleague in the scientific journal Plos One. He named the dinosaur after James Gurney, the artist behind the fantasy series "Dinotopia," which Hendrickx read as a kid.
