Police: 15-Year-Old Missing From Newburyport With Son Who Could Be in Danger

Authorities are searching for a 15-year-old girl who took her 4-month-old son away from the group home where they were staying without the boy’s medication.

Police are looking for a 15-year-old Massachusetts mother who left early Monday morning with her 4-month-old son, leaving medication behind.

Authorities say Shantel Van Voorhis took off around 2:25 a.m. with child, Jacob Van Voorhis, from DARE Family Services in Newburyport, where both were staying.

According to Massachusetts State Police, Van Voorhis left without an antibiotic for her son's ear infection or his diaper bag. The boy is on a special soy formula, and police don't know if she has a baby seat for him.

In western Massachusetts, police say Van Voorhis has connections to Springfield and Holyoke. She may be with Jonathan Heredia, who may be driving a gray 1998 Honda CRV with Massachusetts plates reading "4ZN892." Police say the vehicle was seen Monday near DARE Family Services.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or contact Newburyport Police at 978-462-4411.
