Police have identified the 17-year-old who died after being found unresponsive at a home in New London early Saturday morning as D'Nazia Uzzle, of Groton.

Emergency crews responded to the home on Buchanan Road around 3 a.m. Saturday after getting a report of an unresponsive female.

They rushed Uzzle to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The cause and manner of Uzzle's death from Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are still pending.

Two other people found in the home, identified as 40-year-old Erica Cherry and 19-year-old Nshon Cherry, both of New London, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening stab wounds, according to police.

Uzzle attended high school at the New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus, according to Superintendent of Schools Cynthia Ritchie.

"Our condolences continue to be extended to D'Nazia's multiple family members, and to all throughout the region who are impacted by this incredibly sad loss. D'Nazia influenced the lives of many. She will forever be a beloved part of the Whaler school community and will be deeply missed," Ritchie said in a statement.

The school district is providing counseling services for students and staff at the school, she said.

"The outpouring of support by the Whaler community for the family of D'Nazia Uzzle is testimony to the kind of person Nay was. The loss of a student's life is never easy. Nay will be remembered as a student excited about the future and readying herself for graduation before her life was tragically cut short," said New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus Principal Bryan Mahon.
