(NBC News) A large and growing sinkhole is slowly swallowing two homes in Dunedin, Florida.
Young Ivy Dupre was awakened around 5 a.m. Thursday by what she thought was an intruder.
"I heard like a banging against the door," she recalled.
The noise was coming from the back of the house, so she woke up her father.
"I got up, got my rifle, I was scared, maybe somebody's really breaking in, and as I approached the back of the house I saw our screen room sunk into the ground, and that's when I told my wife and daughter just get out of the house, sinkhole's opening up," he says.
Michael Dupre had just hired a firm to shore up his house after noticing that cracks that first appeared two years ago were getting worse.
