It took some doing, but Cuddles the cat of Putney, Vermont, is free after getting stuck in a drain, with his head peering out of the grate.
Brenda Hamilton of Putney knew her neighbor's cat was missing. She tells the Brattleboro Reformer she was mowing her lawn when she saw Cuddles' head, screamed, and called 911.
Authorities said Cuddles likely got into the drain pipe at the opposite end and tried to squeeze through the grate.
A neighbor used a crowbar to tilt the grate - and Cuddles - up out of its hole. Firefighters used a hacksaw to make a crack in the grate, then used the Jaws of Life to pry it open to free him. It took about three hours.
A veterinarian gave Cuddles a clean bill of health.
