Charlie Baker: Massachusetts needs to tighten its belt

(NECN) – Massachusetts Republican Charlie Baker officially entered the 2010 gubernatorial race today. NECN’s Alison King spoke to the candidate after filing the paperwork. The 52-year-old says his top priority as governor would be a massive overhaul of the state budget, which he says is severely unbalanced and is putting the state at risk for an economic disaster. Baker says, the core issue of his campaign is fiscal stability and predictability. He says, “We’re facing what I would call a very large significant three or four year budget deficit that we need to correct and balance without raising taxes.” Baker says the state should be sending the message to businesses and communities that the Massachusetts is tightening its belt and living within its means. Baker joins a field that already includes Governor Deval Patrick and fellow Republican Christy Mihos.
