Kennedy dually effective, popular in Senate

(NECN) – One of the most influential senators of our time, Ted Kennedy, died Tuesday night at his Cape Cod home at the age of 77. Political consultant Michael Goldman, who has worked with Sen. Kennedy and the Democratic Party, said that there was but one way to describe the senator from Massachusetts. “To understand how fundamentally different he was from any other member of the body, it wasn’t just longevity. It was the fact that if you made a list from the other 99 senators, and you said to them, ‘Give me a list of the three most effective members of this body, and then give me a separate list of the three most popular members’, the only name that would appear on a majority of both those lists is Ted Kennedy,” Goldman said. As a senator from Massachusetts, Kennedy worked on legislation dealing with health care, immigration, civil rights and education. For more of NECN’s coverage on the life of Sen.
