Kennedy public viewing at JFK Library, burial at Arlington National Cemetery

(NECN: Greg Wayland, Dorchester, Mass.) – Arrangements for the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy are beginning to develop. Sen. Kennedy lost his battle with brain cancer late Tuesday night at his Hyannis Port home. He was 77. A public viewing will be held Thursday at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum on Thursday, but times for the viewing have yet to be determined. The senator will also lie in repose Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Friday evening, a private family service will follow inside the Smith Room. Sen. Kennedy’s funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Hope Church — also known as “Mission Church” — in the Mission Hill section of Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood. The church was selected for the service, because Sen. Kennedy attended the church daily while his daughter was battling lung cancer. It is known as a church of healing. Following the service, a motorcade will carry the senator to the airport, from which his body will be flown to Arlington National Cemetery for a private burial on Saturday. Sen. Kennedy’s brothers, President John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, are both buried at Arlington. For more of NECN’s coverage on the life of Sen. Kennedy, visit RememberingKennedy.com.
