Long Island surfers hop on Bill's big waves

(NECN/WCBS: Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) – Hurricane Bill stayed offshore but brought big surf to Long Island beaches on Saturday. Red flags were out at Rockaway Beach, dangerous rip tides meant no swimming allowed. Surfers could not fight the temptation and reveled in the big waves. The rough surf was up to ten feet high. The hurricane’s center was expected to stay off the U.S. East Coast, but forecasters said tropical storm-force winds may reach parts of Massachusetts. Material courtesy of WCBS.
