Midwest cleanup begins after tornadoes hit

(NECN/ABC) – They are cleaning up across the Midwest this afternoon after furious weather plunged a summer night into fear and chaos. Violent winds whipped across at least six states, injuring dozens, tearing apart buildings and overturning cars. Tornadoes and terrible storms have terrorized the Midwest. The National Weather Service in Davenport, Iowa, confirmed today that a tornado touched down Wednesday south of Stanley in northeastern Iowa. Another tornado was confirmed Wednesday night in Hastings, Minn., about 30 miles southeast of Minneapolis. The weather service also was investigating reports of tornadoes in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. ABC’s Diana Alvear reports from Chicago.
