Obama marks enactment of post-9/11 GI Bill

(NECN: Fairfax, VA) – The first new GI Bill since the 9/11 terror attacks tops President Obama’s agenda today. He is attending a rally at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. The bill provides veterans with comprehensive educational benefits. President Barack Obama says helping U.S. service members and veterans continue their education is not only an investment in their future but in the country’s future as well. The maximum benefit under the law will allow every eligible veteran, serviceman and woman, Reservist and National Guard member to attend a public college or university for free. The bill went into effect on Aug. 1. It is the most comprehensive education benefit offered since President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the original GI Bill in 1944. *Material from The Associated Press used in this report*
