Senator Harkin in Iowa as Healthcare debate heats up

(NECN/KCCI: Des Moines, IA) – People from both sides of the health care debate packed a room at the Primary Health Care Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday to hear Senator Tom Harkin talk about health care. Senator Harkin tried answering questions and concerns but a heated crowd that spilled into the hallway did not make it easy. Many people disagree with the government’s handling of the healthcare situation. Some more outlandish patrons even compared it to 1930’s Germany. However some people got tired of the negative opposition. Denise Gross, who has experience in nursing, went to the meeting to get more information on health care. Denise says the opposition should come up with more ideas instead of constant complaints. Even though tempers flared, Senator Harkin says the meeting went well, and that people have legitimate questions. Des Moines wasn’t Senator Harkin’s only stop, he continues his “Building Iowa’s future” tour around Iowa. The Senator’s next stop is Ottumwa on Sunday.
