Vicki Kennedy greets mourners at JFK Library

(NECN: Dorchester, Mass.) – Mourning for Senator Edward Kennedy continued Friday with another chance for the public to pay their final respects. The John F. Kennedy Library and Museum, where Sen. Kennedy’s body was lying in repose, opened at 8 a.m. Friday, but hundreds of people had lined up well before then. Closing was scheduled for 3 p.m., as to prepare for Friday night’s Celebration of Life Memorial service. More than 21,000 people filed past Sen. Kennedy’s casket on Thursday, so many that the hours were extended until 2 a.m. on Friday. On Friday morning, Sen. Kennedy’s widow, Vicki Kennedy, greeted mourners as they came to pay their respects. A private memorial for family and invited friends will be held at the library starting at 7 p.m., and will be televised on NECN and live-streamed on NECN.com. Vice President Joe Biden, as well as Senators John McCain, Orrin Hatch and Christopher Dodd, are expected to speak. A funeral Mass was scheduled for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica in Boston on Saturday. President Barack Obama was expected to deliver the eulogy.
