Woman claims to be Jaycee Lee Dugard, missing 18 years

(NECN/KXTV: El Dorado County, Calif.) – A woman claiming to be Jaycee Lee Dugard, missing for 18 years, showed up at a Bay Area police station, according to local media reports. The FBI and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department have started an investigation into whether this woman truly is the girl who would now be 29-years-old, according to KOLOTV.com. If the woman is actually Jaycee Lee Dugard, as the family hopes, it will be an amazing end to what was a fearful loss. Associated Press Update: Lt. Les Lovell of the El Dorado Sheriff’s Department says a woman came into the Concord police station and said she was Jaycee Lee Dugard, the victim of a 1991 abduction. Lovell says deputies are 99 percent sure it’s Dugard. He says DNA tests were being conducted. After Jaycee Lee Dugard was allegedly abducted as an 11-year-old from South Lake Tahoe, where she was walking to her bus stop, friends and neighbors grieved and still held out hope as months stretched into years. Her stepfather was reportedly hopeful that this woman would turn out to be his missing stepdaughter.
