Proposal to Make SNAP Healthier With Food Incentives

One in 7 Americans participate in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a monthly supplement aimed at reducing hunger. It’s often a political football and is now the target of Republicans looking to slash the budget as lawmakers try to rush a budget through before a government shutdown. Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, joins Sue to discuss how local researchers have proposed a way to encourage better food choices among SNAP’s recipients, improve their health, and cut billions of dollars in health care costs.
