Weather Forecast: Light Snow Overnight

As a coastal low approaches this evening, clouds will thicken and we could see a few flurries in southern New England. Tonight, light snow showers south as a Mid-Atlantic low passes south of Nantucket. Snow will spread from southwest to northeast. Expect just a dusting, except Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, where we could see 2 to 3 inches of snow. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Nantucket until 7 a.m. Thursday. Lows in the 20s south, single digits to teens north. Some of the snow could mix with rain as the low departs Thursday late-morning. Precipitation will come to an end during the afternoon as dry air moves into the region; however, clouds will linger along the coast. Highs on Thursday top out in the mid to upper 30s south, 20s to low 30s north. On Friday, weak high pressure brings a dry and seasonably cold day with highs in the 30s south, 20s north. Breezy in the afternoon with west winds gusting to 20 mph at times. Looking ahead to Saturday, a coastal storm with a significant New England impact is looking more and more likely. However, there are still many uncertainties: the exact track of the storm, where the rain/snow line will set up, and how much precipitation will fall. Another shot at snow is possible late on Monday.
