(NECN: Brad Puffer) - For more than a month, a Maine family has hoped for the best and feared the worst. But now we know that 22-year-old Megan Waterman was one of the four bodies dumped on a Long Island beach. They were the apparent victim of a possible serial killer.

Police made the confirmation through a DNA sample taken from her mother in Maine.

Waterman apparently worked as an escort through Craigslist. She had left Maine for a trip to New York with her boyfriend last May.  Her boyfriend is now in a Maine jail on unrelated charges.

Her body was found as police searched for another missing Craigslist escort who police say is not one of the four victims.  At a new conference on Long Island, police would not say how Waterman died or if they have confirmed a connection to the other women.
