(NECN: Melissa Toupin) - UMASS doctors say diabetes is becoming a nationwide epidemic. Nine percent of people in Worcester have the problem.

Now there is something to make it easier: an E tool.

Patients don't need to come in to the clinic anymore as they can do self monitoring from home.

The tool also makes data available to all of the patients doctors. This will change the way patients play a role in their own health.

There are currently 1000 patients enrolled. The goal is to have all Worcester residents with diabetes enrolled which is upwards of 3000.
