| February 18, 2009 Patrick: Stimulus package not a 'panacea'
|
(NECN: Boston, Mass.) - Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick says the new federal stimulus law signed yesterday by President Obama will funnel between $6 billion and $9 billion to the state over the next two years.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting of the Greater Chamber of Commerce, Patrick said the package includes $1 billion for infrastructure work. Most of the other money will flow directly to the state, cities and towns, but he warned it's not a cure-all.
The governor also asked the crowd if they would prefer a gas tax increase or a toll hike. The majority favored the gas tax.
Patrick says he'll make his proposal on Friday.
