(NECN: N. Attleboro, Mass.) - A Marine helicopter pilot from North Attleboro, Massachusetts, is being laid to rest today.

A funeral service for Captain Kyle Van De Giesen was held this morning at St. Mary's Church in North Attleboro.

A procession through town and burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will follow.

A candlelight vigil for Van De Giesen was held last night at the football field where the former quarterback led the local high school football team to many victories.

Van De Giesen died October 26 in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. He leaves behind his pregnant wife and an 18-month-old daughter.
