| August 3, 2008 FBI ruse nets Rockefeller in Maryland

(Jennifer Eagan, NECN: Boston, MA) - Investigators in Maryland arrested Clark Rockefeller Saturday afternoon, just north of downtown Baltimore.
His seven-year-old daughter is safe, and is in the process of being reunited with her mother, Sandra Boss.
Boston police Commissioner Ed Davis says a "concerned citizen" told FBI agents that the man known as Clark Rockefeller was living in a Baltimore apartment and had a 26-foot catamaran docked at a nearby marina.
FBI agents invented a ruse to get the 48-year-old Rockefeller out of the apartment and away from the child to arrest him in the
Mount Vernon neighborhood north of Baltimore.
Investigators posed as marina workers and called the suspect to tell him that his 26-foot long catamaran was taking on water.
Authorities say Rockefeller got away from a social worker during a supervised visit with his daughter last weekend in Boston, and arranged for two drivers to take them to New York City.
Police initially thought he was heading to Bermuda or Peru, but then realized he may have been planting false clues to throw investigators off the trail.
Boston Police say Clark will be arraigned Monday to begin extradition proceedings. He is charged with felony custodial kidnapping, assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
