(NECN) - A cold case is heating up in Connecticut.

Authorities are searching private property in Seymour for the remains of a Waterbury man missing since 2004.

William "Billy" Smolinski was last seen in August 2004 when he asked a neighbor to watch his dog.

This disappearance led to a law changing how police investigate reports of missing adults.
