(Stephen Iandoli, NECN: Taunton, Mass.) - Funeral services were held for 24-year-old Army Sergeant Shane Duffy in Taunton, Massachusetts Saturday. The Taunton resident was killed in action in earlier this month after being deployed to Iraq.
American flags accompanied an eerie silence as Duffy was honored by family, friends and well wishers. Taunton Mayor Charles Crowley asked citizens to hold the flags, to honor the fallen soldier.
Governor Deval Patrick, Lt. Governor Tim Murray and Senator John Kerry all paid their respects to Shane Duffy. He is the 65th soldier in Massachusetts to die while fighting in the Middle East. Gov. Patrick ordered all flags in the state flown at half staff.
NECN's Stephen Iandoli reports.
