For decades, halftime has been pretty quiet at high school football games in Boston, but that has changed thanks to a music program that is bringing students together from all backgrounds.

Young musicians from English High School, the oldest public high school in America, are ready to liven things up at Doyle's Café in Boston.

JP Morgan, Leonard Nimoy, and Herb Chambers are among the institution's alumni, and now it's home to the first marching band in the Boston Public School system in 50 years.

The concert band has grown from just eight members to 24. When it combines forces with the drum line, that's a marching band 30 strong. The group performs at parades and football games after hours upon hours of practice.

Ariana Fernandes is one of several high schoolers whose lives have been changed by this music program. The band has created a sense of community for the students, which helps them to form new friendships in a place that offers social and emotional support.
