Meriden police are investigating a bank robbery at a local credit union.
Police dispatchers said the department responded to Seasons Credit Union at 1371 East Main Street around 9:54 a.m. Thursday for a reported robbery. The company posted on its website that the Meriden branch would be closed for the remainder of the day.
Meriden police Sgt. Christopher Fry said that the suspect entered the bank, showed a gun and put what appeared to be some kind of explosive device on the counter. He demanded cash from the tellers, who complied, then fled on foot, Fry said.
According to Fry the bomb squad and K9 units responded to investigate the device, which was a decoy. No one was injured.
The suspect is described as male, 5 feet 10 inches, wearing dark clothing, a hooded sweatshirt and blue sweatpants. Anyone with information should contact Meriden police.
