    Mom Charged with Assaulting Baby Held on $100K Bail

    A Nashua, New Hampshire, mother is charged with assaulting a 7-week-old baby, causing serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

    Ashley Smith, 20, of 79 Almont St., was arrested Friday night and charged with one count of first degree assault - domestic violence. 

    Nashua Police said the investigation began on Friday when they were informed that a 7-week-old boy had been hospitalized with "non-accidental serious injuries." The investigation determined that Smith had assaulted the baby, who was known to her, and caused three leg fractures. The injuries are not considered to be life threatening. 

    Smith was held at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections on $100,000 cash bail pending her arraigment on Monday.
