2 Teens Killed, 4 Others Injured in Taunton, Mass. Car Crash

(NECN: Scot Yount, Taunton, Mass.) - "It was shocking to see to what happened to the car it was just, there was nothing left of it," said Howard Gould, who owns the property where a crash killed two teenagers and left four others seriously hurt.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene just a few minutes after the first 911 call around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

"When the fire department arrived, they found six occupants in the vehicle all trapped in the vehicle, they used the jaws of life to remove them from the vehicle," said Lt. Paul Roderick of the Taunton Police Department.

Killed at the scene were 18-year-old Eden Macedo, who was riding in the front passenger seat of the car which is registered to her father and 18-year-old Jason Neto, who was in the back seat.

Neighbors say few obey the posted speed limits there.

"I thought they were just taken to the hospital and recovered, but I was shocked when I heard that two individuals died," said Ed LaMarsh, who lives across the street from the accident scene.

"They just said to me that the car never stopped, no braking, no," said Gould.

Police investigators said there were no skid marks and the driver, 24-year-old Nicholas Costa, apparently did not apply the brakes.

Macedo was riding in the front passenger seat, where a nearly empty quart bottle of raspberry vodka was found.

The other four were in the back seat.

"People let loose a little bit, alcohol is involved, in this case nobody had their seat belts on, it just all adds up to a bad result," said Lt. Roderick.

At this point, Costa will likely face two counts of motor vehicular homicide, but police can't say for certain until the investigation is complete.

"It is certainly a tragedy at Christmas time, it seems like every year, some local municipality or state have a tragic accident right before the holidays," he said.
