(NECN: Jennifer Eagan) - Four teenagers are dead and a fifth is injured after a crash in Connecticut. One teenager is fighting for his life after a crash that killed the other four teens in the car.

All were students at Griswold High School in Connecticut.

The accident happened late yesterday afternoon. Authorities have not identified the students involved, but they do say they included a senior, three juniors, and a sophomore.

Officials met at the school last night, and counselors will be on hand at the school today.

Last night, a state police reconstruction team pieced together the accident, trying to figure out how the Nissan Altima somehow veered off the road at the intersection of route 201 and route 138.

Speed, alcohol, and distracted driving are all being looked at as possibilities, although police say an official cause may not be released for days, even weeks.

Police do say that stretch of Route 201 can be dangerous.

"It's a very dark road," said trooper Kelly Grant. "It's kind of a straightaway, there's kind of a curve in it but it's not an overly curvy road, it's residential."

The surviving teen, a male, is listed in critical condition this morning.

The accident comes during Connecticut's Teen Save Driving Awareness Week.
