Ipswich, Mass. Residents Relieved at Arrests

(NECN: Josh Brogadir: Ipswich, Mass.) - We learned today, Tony Woo was not shot; he died of blunt force trauma.

The Essex County District Attorney says three men broke into the restaurant - but would not say this was a robbery, or what the motive was.

Three weeks later, the restaurant remains closed.

"I had some relief to hear that they made some arrests," said John Markos, owner of Linebrook Plaza Golf Range who knew Tony Woo for two decades, often seeing the restaurant owner from his driving range across Route 1.

He, like most people in Ipswich, Mass., had been wondering who could have killed the popular 62-year-old owner of the Majestic Dragon Chinese Restaurant three weeks ago.

"Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Mr. Woo was the victim of blunt force trauma," said Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.

We now know who, according to authorities - three men, arrested after a search that involved police in at least four states, plus the secret service and border patrol.

In custody are:

* Jun Lin, 29 of Malden, MA.

* Sifa Lee, 34, whose last address was Quincy, MA, where Tony Woo lived.

* Cheng Sun, 46, of New York City.

Lin was arrested as he tried to cross the border into Canada from Niagara, N.Y. On  Tuesday.

Lee was nabbed in Parsippany, N.J. this morning.

And Sun was taken into custody at his home in New York's Chinatown this morning.

What we still don't know is why.

"We don't have any information at all to believe it was mob-related. And there was absolutely no indication that he was involved in anything illegal or untoward," Blodgett added.

You couldn't miss the outpouring of support in the center of town two weeks ago.

And what friends like John Markos will miss is the kind of guy Tony Woo was.

"For me he didn't seem like he would have any enemies. He was a great guy and was well loved by everybody in the neighborhood. So, your guess is as good as mine," Markos added.

Lin was arraigned Friday in Niagara, N.Y. - he has waived extradition and will come back here.

The other two men will be arraigned in N.Y. and N.J. later this week.
