(NECN) - A person has been hit and killed on Interstate 290 on the Auburn-Worcester line.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that an unidentified person was operating a 2012 Toyota Camry on Route 290 East in the right lane by Exit 10 ( Hope Avenue) in Auburn.
For reasons that remain under investigation, the operator of the Toyota exited the vehicle as it was moving and was struck by a tractor trailer. The Toyota traveled approximately 600 feet on Route 290 East before coming to rest in the high speed travel lane against the guardrail. The operator of the tractor trailer stopped and remained at the scene.
The gender, age and identity of the victim will not be released on Monday. The crash remains under investigation by troopers assigned to Troop C, State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section.
