Described by its owners as not your usual "red sauce" Italian restaurant, LaStoria Trattoria, featuring dishes from Sicily to Venice boasts an authentic old world presence in the heart of Stoughton, Massachusetts. But did those incredible aromas coming from the rustic kitchen live up to this cantina's claims of uniqueness? That question was answered with our first mouthful of the arancini e salciccia, one of the best and distinctive appetizers we have ever enjoyed.
The two large panko crusted risotto croquettes filled with sausage and provolone, sitting alongside savory stewed tomatoes was magnifico! And the grilled artichoke hearts, one of several antipasti "tastes" served up at LaStoria were tender, slightly charred and utterly delicious.
On to a bowl of rigatoni stracciate. Rich with veal ragu and ricotta cheese this heaping serving tasted like it came straight from grandma's kitchen. And the addition of fresh peas to the tomato basil sauce made this classic dish really pop.
The almond crusted haddock was pure brilliance. The fine kitchen staff turned this otherwise ordinary fish dish into an exceptional one by coating the large filet in chopped almonds, baking it to golden perfection and then reeling us in completely with a roast garlic and lemon crema finish.

The hazelnut gelato was creamy and refreshing and the lemon ricotta cheesecake was simply outstanding - the dense and velvety filling was both sweet and tart - an ideal ending to one glorious meal. Service was also impressive, with our charming waitress Julie efficient, professional and gracious.
Prices are remarkably reasonable at LaStoria. Antipasti tastes and appetizers run from $4 to $10; pastas and entrees from $11 to $24; and desserts around $6. For its authentic Italian cuisine, superb preparation, generous portions, noteworthy service and great value…you guessed it, LaStoria Trattoria will get the Platinum Plate.
