TWIB: Politics at Play in Mass. Layoff Timing?

(This Week In Business) - One of the major selling points of Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick's re-election bid was the state's jobless rate, which stands at 8.4%, more than a full point lower than the national average.

But within one week of the election, several Massachusetts companies, including Raytheon, Genzyme and Biogen Idec announced layoffs adding up to more than 1,000 jobs.

Is the timing coincidence or politics?

Joining in our Boston Business Editors roundtable was Frank Quaratiello, business dditor of the Boston Herald, Shirley Leung, who edits the business pages of the Boston Globe, and George Donnelly, editor of the Boston Business Journal.

The political and economic fallout from election day is the focus, and they all agree on some points!
