(NECN: John Maroney, Boston) - The mother of the city of Boston's first homicide victim screamed in West Roxbury District Court this morning after the arraignment of the man charged with stabbing her son.
William Earl did not show his face in the courtroom as a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
The 20 year-old Mattapan man is accused of committing the first homicide of 2014 and the first to take place during a new administration at City Hall and at police headquarters.
Police say the suspect was arrested after altercation with the 19-year-old victim at an apartment on Margaretta Drive. Investigators say the two men knew each other and there were witnesses who saw the fight.
About five hours after the stabbing in Hyde Park, police were called to 136 Rowe Street. They discovered a man in the street who had been shot to death. The shooting has shaken people who live in this quiet urban neighborhood
Police are still searching for a suspect for the shooting here on Rowe Street. William Earl, the suspect in the Hyde Park murder, has been ordered held without bail and will be back in court next month.
