(NECN: Revere, Mass.) - The Wonderland Greyhound Park in Revere, Massachusetts is shutting down.
Employees were told about the closure this morning.
The racetrack has been opened since 1935, but had to stop racing dogs after it was banned at the beginning of the year. After 75 years of operation, the racetrack can no longer compete in a drastically changed gaming market.
"This is an emotional day for all of us, and the most difficult part of it is the hardworking people who have been given notice that they no longer have a job," says the track's President and CEO, Richard Dalton.
Track officials were counting on a casino bill to keep the track open.
