7 Rescued After Boat Sinks Off Maine Coast

Fire officials say seven people were rescued at sea after their boat sank about two miles off the Maine coast.

Kevin Duross, chief deputy of the Biddeford Fire Department, told the Portland Press Herald the boaters had been in the water off Biddeford Pool for about 30 minutes Sunday when rescuers found them. They were all wearing lifejackets, and no one was seriously hurt.

Duross said they were all taken to a hospital to be checked for hypothermia. The water temperature was about 63 degrees Fahrenheit (17 degrees Celsius).

It's not yet clear what caused the boat to sink.
