Police: Maine Woman Who Stepped in Front of Truck With Toddler Left Behind Suicide Notes

Authorities say 26-year-old Heidi McGovern, of Lee, was holding her two-year-old son, Enoch, when she stepped in front of a tanker truck

Maine State Police say a woman who stepped in front of a tanker truck while carrying her toddler had left behind suicide notes.

Authorities said 26-year-old Heidi McGovern, of Lee, was holding her two-year-old son, Enoch, when she stepped in front of a truck on Interstate 95, north of Lincoln on Thursday.

McGovern was instantly killed. Police said her son was thrown from her arms and away from the truck, landing in the passing lane of the highway.

The toddler remains hospitalized with serious injuries at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Police say McGovern had left behind suicide notes at her home. She was also the mother to an infant who was elsewhere at the time of the incident.
