Man Convicted of Murder in Maine Back Behind Bars

A man who spent a decade in prison after being convicted of murder is back behind bars after pleading no contest to a felony weapons charge.

The Sun Journal reports that Frank Cugliata was sentenced to a year in jail after entering his plea to a possession of firearms by a prohibited person in Oxford County Superior Court.

The 62-year-old Cugliata was arrested in July after a parole officer found three guns hidden in his Porter home. All were loaded.

Cugliata was barred from possessing firearms after being convicted of murder in 1974.

He and a co-defendant were convicted of killing Vincent Serra during a drug deal in Nobleboro.

Prosecutors say since being paroled about a decade into his life sentence, Cugliata is not believed to have committed a crime.
